While lots of mothers are really excited to breastfeed their babies, it is equally important to know its reasons as to why you are breastfeeding your baby. Many research studies states that Breastfeeding is the best solution for proper development of a child and it helps mothers to cope up with weight problems and others by breastfeeding their baby. Breastfeed is a natural food for babies and it contains all the nutrients, vitamins and proteins a child needs to grow in their infantry years, in fact breast milk is what the mother eats post pregnancy so a child gets to eat all that in form of the milk. Not many people know the details about breastfeeds, it is basic nutrition a child requires in their initial months. Breastfeeding consists of three different stages that are Colostrum stage, the transitional stage and mature milk stage Let us get a brief idea about these three important stages of Breastfeeding:
Colostrum
This stage is the first that occurs immediately after pregnancy and this lasts for several days after the baby is born. The milk is cream or yellow in color, the milk at this stage is thicker than what is produced at the later stages. The Colostrum milk is high in fat soluble vitamins, minerals, proteins and immunoglobulin. The immunoglobulin in the milk helps the child for passive immunity as the milk contains antibodies that are passed from other to child. This especially protects the child from varied bacterial or viral illnesses. This milk lasts for two to four days and is replaced by transitional milk.
Transitional milk
This is the second stage after colostrum and it lasts for over two weeks, the transitional milk contains high levels of water soluble vitamins, fat solubles and lactose. This milk consists of more calories than Colostrum stage milk.
The mature milk
This is the final stage of breastfeeding. The mature milk helps to maintain hydration levels in babies and mostly has 90% water content in it. The other 10% of milk contains proteins, fats, carbohydrates that are needed for the growth of the babies. The mature milk is further split in to two types of milk that are the hind milk and the foremilk. The foremilk as the name suggests is the milk that baby receives at the start of feeding, this contains high levels of vitamin, proteins and water in it. Whereas the hind milk is released after foremilk period is over, this milk helps babies to gain weight as it consists of high levels of fat.
Breastfeeding is the best stage of a motherhood that helps mother – child bonding; it also helps babies and mothers in varied ways that are directly or indirectly related to their happiness, health and overall wellbeing. The research and development suggests new mothers to breastfeed rather than formula milk although later is also okay in strict terms where mother is a working mother.
